Balancing More Than Numbers
Balancing More Than Numbers
In accounting, we’re trained to make everything add up every dollar, every discrepancy, every report.
But what no one talks about is the balance we carry beyond spreadsheets.
I remember staying late one night to close the month-end books while my daughter asked for me to play a game with her. My laptop glowed, numbers stared back at me, and my heart was pulled in two directions. I wanted to be perfect at both but perfection is impossible. And that’s okay.
Women in accounting often become the dependable ones: problem-solvers, calm under pressure, the ones who “can handle it.” We show up prepared, polished, and ready, even when exhaustion sits quietly behind the scenes.
Self-care isn’t always bubble baths or spa days. For us, it can look like:
- Logging off when the workday ends
- Saying no without overexplaining
- Choosing rest as productive
- Letting go of what isn’t ours to carry
Love isn’t just endurance. It’s integrity. Alignment. Choosing yourself without guilt.
We can be analytical and emotional. Ambitious and rested. Professional and deeply human.
Accounting measures assets and liabilities, but it doesn’t measure worth. The real balance comes when we give ourselves permission to be whole.
Because at the end of the day, we’re not just balancing numbers…we’re balancing life.
