Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering healthcare and informatics is to embrace innovation and be willing to adapt. These fields are constantly evolving, and with rapid advancements—including the growing role of AI—continuous learning isn’t optional; it’s essential. Stay curious, seek opportunities to expand your skills, and remain flexible in the face of change. The ability to evolve and innovate will always be one of your greatest strengths.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is balancing and prioritizing competing demands, especially as projects accelerate and expectations constantly shift. Leading multiple initiatives while managing teams requires making real-time decisions in fast-moving environments. At the same time, the ongoing introduction of new technologies—including AI—presents both exciting opportunities and uncertainty. I’ve learned that maintaining flexibility alongside structure, and approaching change with curiosity rather than resistance, helps reduce overwhelm for both leaders and teams. In a field that never stands still, staying adaptable while keeping people supported, focused, and grounded is essential to moving work forward with clarity and purpose.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Compassion and humility have always guided how I show up, both professionally and personally. I strive to model these values for my two daughters and my son, so they can see what’s possible when you stay grounded, work hard, and lead with purpose. I also hope to inspire other women—especially women of color—to know that success doesn’t have to follow a traditional four-year college path. Beyond my formal roles, community and representation are deeply important to me. I’m actively involved with organizations like Black Women’s Health and have served as a co-chair for an employee resource group at Stanford. Being recognized with a 10-year milestone award and honors for ERG leadership has been especially meaningful—not as a measure of tenure, but as a reflection of impact, advocacy, and the people I’ve been proud to stand alongside.
