What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my passion for education and helping others achieve their goals. I began my career as a high school teacher, where I taught for six years and developed a strong foundation in guiding and supporting students. Today, I serve as a Coordinator at Sanford University, where I work closely with approximately 300 students, assisting them in selecting courses and navigating the academic system.
In my role, I wear many hats: I ensure that students receive the resources and support they need, conduct workshops, and collaborate with various departments to enhance the student experience. Holding a master’s degree, I combine my academic knowledge with practical experience to create meaningful opportunities for students and help them succeed academically and personally.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is that happiness is living in accordance with one’s values. My work has always aligned well with the value I hold for education. Leaning into those places and moments that feel right are key to achieving success and making a meaningful impact in your work.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Your path doesn’t have to be linear. Many of the best roles in this field are discovered by being curious, saying yes to opportunities, and letting your strengths lead you.
Trust that relationship-building is real leadership. In student services, people-oriented skills—listening, empathy, collaboration—are not “soft.” They are the foundation of effective leadership.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges—and opportunities—in my field right now is guiding students through their college journey. Every student has unique goals, needs, and obstacles, and helping them navigate course selection, academic requirements, and campus resources is both rewarding and impactful. Being able to support them in making informed decisions and achieving their educational aspirations is the most meaningful part of my work.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The most important values to me in both my work and personal life are nurturing growth, patience, and creativity. I enjoy gardening and even tried making wine for the first time this summer, which allow me to cultivate and appreciate they process of growth and care. I also cherish spending quality time with my two children, as family and connection are central to who I am. These experiences inform how I approach my work—supporting students with care, attention, and a commitment to their success.
