Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute a lot of my success first and foremost to my mother Brenda. I learned a great deal by watching her give and work tirelessly every day, no matter the situation or circumstance. Even though she is no longer here, she passed on to me her strength, courage, conviction, and a fierce work ethic. I know it is because of her (and other strong women in my family like my late grandmother Theoria, my aunt Joyce, my sister Tamera, and my cousin Davena) that my successes belong to them too. Their guidance, support and unwavering belief in me have been the foundation for everything I have accomplished (personally and professionally). Because of these women, I am a great mom and a successful woman who isn't afraid to face challenges, speak up for myself and others and fight for what's right.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always be true to yourself and don't be afraid to speak up for yourself and others. Embracing authenticity has allowed me to build genuine relationships and make decisions that align with my values and beliefs, while confidently voicing my ideas or suggestions, and speaking 'truth to power' on behalf of myself and for others has opened doors to opportunities and growth throughout my career.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry or any industry:

Never be afraid to try something new. Taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone allows you to grow and discover your strengths and your weaknesses which is a good thing.

Know your value. Understanding your worth and what you bring to the table ensures you advocate for yourself and allows you to pursue opportunities that align with your skills and ambitions.

Take up space. There's nothing wrong with touting your own accomplishments and successes. Be proud and confident. You are your own best advocate.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is that contributions are often minimized, overlooked or disregarded. This can make it difficult to gain recognition for hard work and innovative ideas, to be promoted, or to be a part of a 'team' environment. However, it also presents an opportunity to advocate for oneself and others, to highlight the value of diverse perspectives, and to create a culture that genuinely acknowledges and rewards meaningful contributions.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are honesty, integrity, reliability, dependability, a strong work ethic, and commitment. I strive to be someone others can count on, to act with integrity in every situation, and to dedicate myself fully to the responsibilities and relationships I take on. These principles guide my decisions, actions, and interactions daily.
