Deb Novotny
Deb Novotny is a distinguished historian, educator, and Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park, a role she has held with remarkable dedication for nearly five decades. Since earning her license in 1975, Deb has guided thousands through the Gettysburg Battlefield, offering tours that bring history to life through expert analysis of leadership decisions, terrain, monuments, and the deeply human stories behind the battle. Her work also extends to the National Cemetery and Historic Evergreen Cemetery, as well as specialized tours highlighting civilians and the critical roles women played during the Civil War. In addition to battlefield tours, she delivers engaging lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and Road Scholar programs that make complex history accessible and compelling.
Alongside her work at Gettysburg, Deb devoted 28 years to teaching U.S. History and Advanced Placement U.S. History at Gettysburg Area High School, shaping generations of students with her passion for the past and her commitment to historical rigor. Her academic foundation includes a Master’s degree in History and a Bachelor’s degree in Education, both earned at California University of Pennsylvania, where she was a member of Phi Alpha Theta. Known for her insight, creativity, and deep knowledge, Deb’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to preserving history, educating others, and ensuring that the stories of Gettysburg continue to resonate with meaning and relevance.
