Angela Tucker-Holmes is the Manager I of Custodial Services at DeKalb County School District, where she oversees 138 facilities and leads a team of over 600 custodial employees, including eight skilled trade supervisors. With 26 years of experience within the district, Angela has progressed through multiple roles, starting in the nutrition department, then moving to custodial services. Her career path includes positions as custodian, head custodian, plant engineer, and skilled trade supervisor, ultimately becoming the first woman in her district to hold the Environmental Custodial Service Manager I position. She is widely recognized for her calm, open, and supportive leadership style, fostering operational excellence across all facilities under her management.

Angela’s professional achievements are complemented by her commitment to education and personal growth. She returned to school at age 49, earning an Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, and a Master’s degree from Strayer University, all while excelling academically and maintaining a 3.87 GPA. Her determination and perseverance in pursuing leadership roles in a male-dominated field set her apart, particularly her role as Skilled Trade Supervisor, which she attained after three attempts, breaking barriers for women in her district.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Angela is dedicated to giving back to her community. She volunteers with the Salvation Army and supports organizations serving domestic violence survivors. She has also held leadership positions within the Georgia Association of Educators and the Organization of DeKalb Educators, representing education support professionals at the local and state levels. An Eastern Star and avid traveler, Angela enjoys exploring warm destinations, with her next trip planned for Guyana. Her leadership, resilience, and commitment to service continue to inspire colleagues and the community alike.

My advice to young women entering this industry is to follow your dreams relentlessly, never give up, and seek guidance when needed—success is rarely achieved alone.

The biggest challenges in my field right now involve ensuring the correct products are used consistently, maintaining high standards of cleanliness across the district, and keeping everyone in the building safe.

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are respect—for others, for the work we do, and for ourselves. I strive to always remember who I am and how I wish to be treated, and I bring that same standard to every interaction.
