Las Vegas, Nevada—Ruby Messina, also known professionally as MzRuby, is a multifaceted dancer, choreographer, and educator whose career spans performance, competitive choreography, dance film, and arts education. With over two decades of experience in the dance industry, Messina has established herself as a respected creative force and mentor, dedicated to artistic excellence and the development of the next generation of dancers.
Originally born in Sicily and raised in Southern California, Messina’s early exposure to diverse cultural traditions deeply influenced her movement style and creative voice. She began formal training at a young age, studying ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and commercial dance styles, while also performing in cultural festivals and competitive settings. This multicultural foundation continues to inform her dynamic and expressive approach to choreography.
Messina holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a focus on Production and Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as well as an Associate Degree in Dance Performance and Choreography from Irvine Valley College. Ruby began her professional dance career as early as her junior high school years, when she received her commercial dance certification from the American Musical & Dramatic Academy of Performing Arts, Los Angeles, as a high school study candidate. Her academic background uniquely blends performance, leadership, and production, allowing her to work fluently across stage, screen, and educational environments.
As a performer and choreographer, Ruby Messina has contributed to projects associated with national and international platforms, including competitive dance circuits, commercial productions, and dance film. Her choreographic work emphasizes storytelling, musicality, and emotional authenticity, and has been presented in live performances, competitions, and independent film festivals.
In addition to her creative work, Messina is a dedicated educator and coach. She has taught dancers of all ages and levels in studio, school, and competitive team settings, serving as a technique instructor, choreographer, and competition coach. Her teaching philosophy centers on building strong technical foundations while fostering confidence, individuality, and artistic expression. She is also an experienced judge and mentor within the dance and cheer communities.
